Career Summary (for details see CV)

Joined the team at the NCCA in 1989 as a part-time Senior Lecturer, spending four days each week in Bournemouth and one day teaching at Reading University Department of Fine Art.

In 1990 started full-time at Bournemouth. (Completed Writing up PhD during this year and 1991)


Immediately prior to moving to Bournemouth, spent four years as a PhD Researcher at Loughborough University of Technology Computer-Human Interface Research Centre (LUTCHI) (Previously called HCIRU - Human Computer Interface Research Unit), starting in 1985. In 1986 I started working as a Part-Time Sessional Lecturer in Reading University Fine art Department.

At LUTCHI worked on these projects:

Participatory Art and Computers - PhD research (including case study of development of Smallworld suite of programs)

The Cooperative Machine - an Alvey sponsored project


Before Loughborough was at University of Kent at Canterbury (UKC) as Artist in Residence in the Computing Laboratory from 1984 to 1985.


Immediately prior to the residency at UKC, had been 'unwaged' since leaving the Polytechnic of North London (PNL) in 1982

At PNL was a Research Assistant in the Architectural Geometry Research Unit (AGRU) (Previously called SGRU - Structural Geometry Research Unit) run by Florian Beigel.


Joined AGRU on leaving the Slade School of Fine Art in 1979, wherehad been a postgraduate student in the Dept. of Experimental & Electronic Art.

In 1977, as a student at The Slade first started to use computer technology.

I have written about this in a chapter for "White Heat,Cold Logic:British computer arts 1960-80"


First degree was in Fine Art - a BA Fine Art (Hons) (1st) at Bristol Polytechnic.


Previously did art foundation course at Yeovil Technical College.
