Production Tracking Software for VFX and Animation
Summary
Tracktor VFX (I’m still working on the name!) is a production tracking web application, geared towards animation and VFX pipelines. In the current market of subscription-based and proprietary tools, Tracktor is aimed to give a breath of fresh air to hobbyists/freelancers, students and small teams, by facilitating their needs for VFX/anim production management, while offering a free and open sourced tier.
The web application is developed using React/Flask/SQLite stack, and its main functionality include:
- user system
- creation/deletion of project
- shot/asset status tracking
- ability to make notes for each individual asset/shot department
- project sharing
In addition to the web app, Tracktor comes with a plugin for TIK Manager - an open source pipeline tool for most of the popular DCC packages. The plugin allows to pull projects into TIK from Tracktor and sync them to any changes made in Tracktor. This is to showcase the possible use case for Tracktor API and integration into the DCC tools.
The product delivered as part of the thesis is a proof of concept and is being developed further according to the roadmap.
